OUR PERSONAL RECOGNITION
FROM THE CANONICAL PRIMATES & METROPLITANS
OF THE
UKRAINIAN ATOCEPHALOUS ORTHODOX CHURCH
Canonical Apostolic Line from the UAOC (TOMOS of 1924)
The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church is part of the historical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, begun in Ukraine in 1921. Our first Hierarchs for the UAOC were consecrated in 1942, with the help of the Polish Orthodox Church and authorized by a Patriarchal Bull of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.
Among those consecrated in 1942, was Metropolitan +HRIJHORIJ (Ohijchuk), who led the SOBORNOPRAVNA (Council-Ruled) Church in Europe and later in the United States. He was succeeded by Metropolitan +ANDREI (Praszky) and then Metropolitan +ALEXIS (Nizza). In 2002 His Eminence +MICHAEL (Kirkland) was recognized by Metropolitan +ALEXIS and included in the Diptychs of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
On 2 November 2018, the Ecumenical Patriarchate declared that it recognized the sacraments as performed by the UAOC (Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church) as valid. It was further stated from this meeting that "when there is some talk about the non-canonicity of the Holy Sacraments celebrated by the clergy of these churches, the Holy Mother Church has answered. These Sacraments and clerical actions are canonical!"
